WOMEN’S TENNIS

Sophomore Laura Burns (Hertford, England) and junior Olena Leonchuk (Kiev, Ukraine) posted solid results at the UVA Invitational. Burns and Leonchuk went 2-0 in their singles matches. Burns defeated Tennessee’s Sam Orlin (6-1, 6-3) and Marshall’s Jessica Keener (6-2, 6-0).

Burns defeated Tennessee’s Sam Orlin (6-1, 6-3) and Marshall’s Jessica Keener (6-2, 6-0). Leonchuk beat UNC Greensboro’s Arielle Vanstrolly (6-3, 6-3) and Marshall’s Catherine Kellner (6-2, 6-1). In other singles action, freshman Ana Bara (Oradea, Romania), sophomore Kateryna Yergina (Kiev, Ukraine) and freshman Mihaela Bunea (Bucharest, Romania) won two matches. Freshman Alex Bara (Oradea, Romania) lost both of her singles matches. In doubles, the team of Buena and Leonchuk won their only match. The team of Yergina and Burns split their two matches while the team of Ana and Alex Bara lost both of their doubles matches.

MEN’S SOCCER

Senior midfielder Gerson Dos Santos (Sao Paulo, Brazil/E.E. Ruth Cabral Troncarelli) was recognized by the Soccer America National Team of the Week. Dos Santos was also named CAA Player of the Week. The recognitions come after Dos Santos led the Rams to road wins at Richmond and Coastal Carolina. In the two games, he scored two goals and two assists. This season, he has scored three goals and four assists. Dos Santos and the Rams’ next game will be at George Mason Saturday at 7 p.m.
