Golf

WILMINGTON – VCU shot 315 in Sunday’s final round of the Landfall Tradition at the Country Club of Landfall, putting them in 10th place of 12 teams.
VCU’s final fall tournament allowed Jens Fahrbring (Sollentuna, Sweden) and Alex Brown (Richmond/Lloyd Bird HS) to tie for 25th in individual results.

VCU’s final fall tournament allowed Jens Fahrbring (Sollentuna, Sweden) and Alex Brown (Richmond/Lloyd Bird HS) to tie for 25th in individual results.
Tulsa won the Landfall Tradition with four over, ahead of Xavier in second and Purdue.
The Rams placed ahead of Maryland and UNC Wilmington.

Men’s Basketball

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Rams landed in sixth place in the Colonial Athletic Association preseason poll.
Hofstra was picked as the first-place finisher in the poll, ahead of George Mason in second and Drexel in third.
VCU comes just behind Old Dominion University in fourth and UNC Wilmington in Fifth. The Rams are expected to at least place better than Towson, according to the poll.
The CAA preseason poll is conducted by collecting votes from league head coaches, sports information directors and members of the media.

Women’s Basketball

RICHMOND – The women’s basketball team was picked to finish seventh this season in the CAA.
First place is expected to be taken by ODU with James Madison coming in second.
VCU comes ahead of George Mason, ranked eighth in the poll, and behind UNC Wilmington in sixth.

Field Hockey

BOSTON, Mass. – The Rams (4-15, 2-6 CAA) lost to the Northeastern Huskies 1-2 Friday in a decision made by strokes, and lost another Sunday against Hofstra, 1-4.
Friday, the Rams were outshot by the Huskies 5-34, kicking 2-14 shots on goal.
Nikki Lloyd (Kent, England) scored VCU’s only point assisted by Ashley Cadwallader (Fairfax/Fairfax HS) in a scramble during the second half.
The only two shots on goal for the whole game were put on by Lloyd and Emilie Osinga (Aerdenhout, Netherlands).
Sunday, Hofstra also outshot the Rams, this time at least doubling their shots 8-16 and shots on goal 5-13.
Emily Guerra (Yorktown/Seton Hall HS) scored the final point of the game and VCU’s only point on a breakaway shortly before the end of the match after Hofstra had already secured their four-point lead.

Men’s Cross Country

NEWARK, Del. – The Rams concluded the CAA Championships with an average finish – fifth out of nine teams.
VCU’s Cary Chaffee (Richmond/Hermitage HS) and Jay Wyss (Richmond/J.R. Tucker HS) finished in the Top Ten.
William & Mary came in first place with 32 points, followed by James Madison with 63 points. George Mason ran third at 98 points. VCU, with 111 points, placed ahead of UNC Wilmington at 152 points.

Women’s Cross Country

NEWARK, Del. – The Rams placed eighth out of 10 teams Friday afternoon at the CAA Championships.
The Rams ended the run with 208 points – just two points better than ninth-place UNC Wilmington. William & Mary overwhelmed the competition with a low 25 point spread. Georgia State took distant second with 83 point as James Madison followed closely behind them with 87 points for third place.
Danielle Williams (Virginia Beach/Salem HS) led the Rams with 23:11.12 placing eighth.

Volleyball

RICHMOND – The Rams (11-5-3, 7-3-1 CAA) split a pair of matches over the weekend, first losing to James Madison University 2-3 Friday, then shutting out George Mason (7-14, 4-11) 3-0 Saturday.
In the game against Madison, VCU lost the first two matches, then won the second two, but lost the tiebreaker in the end (8-15).
VCU hit for .171 against James Madison’s .254.
During Saturday’s match, VCU hit for .194 for .138. The shut-out victory favorably imbalanced the Rams’ record, putting them at 13-12 overall and 7-8 in the CAA.

Women’s Soccer

RICHMOND – VCU (11-5-3, 7-3-1 CAA) lost to JMU 1-3 Friday and are set to host the Dukes Monday for the first round contest of the CAA Tournament at Sports Backers Stadium.
Friday, the two teams were close in shots. VCU shot 12 to JMU’s 11 shots and each goalkeeper collected five saves.
Bridgit Cooley (Clifton/Seton HS) picked up Donna Morwarin’s (Deventer, Netherlands) assist to score VCU’s only point in the last ten minutes of the match.

Men’s Soccer

RICHMOND – The Rams (4-13-1, 2-8-1 CAA) played James Madison University (9-5-3, 4-4-3) Friday but neither team could score a point.
James Madison outshot VCU 12-22 but VCU still got more shots on goal 7-5.
