Women’s Tennis WILLIAMSBURG – The women’s tennis team participated in the William & Mary Invitational over the weekend. 2006 Colonial Athletic Association Co-Player of the Year, Marianna Yuferova (St. Petersburg, Russia) and Olena Leonchuk advanced through the quarterfinal matches, but fell out of the semifinal round.

Due to a withdrawal in the quarterfinals and two wins at the semifinals, Olga Borisova (Minsk, Belarus moved forward to play Katrina Tsang of University of North
Carolina Sunday.
Borisova defeated Penn’s Julia Koulbitskaya 6-3, 6-0 in Flight ‘B’ of the quarterfinal round, and then gave UNC’s Sanaz Marand the same beating with the same score.

Women’s Tennis
CHARLOTTESVILLE – Senior Petr Olsak (Novy Jicin, Czech Republic) won the Red Singles title Sunday at the U.Va. Fall Invitational.
His final match against fourth-seeded William Noblitt 6-4, 6-4 gave him the title win.
Two other Rams, Emil Lindgren (Stocksund, Sweden) and Damien Lacombe (Perigueux, France) dropped out in the finals.
Lindgren was defeated by Harvard’s Scott Denenberg, and Lacombe lost to Wake Forest’s Cory Parr.
Women’s Soccer
WILLIAMSBURG – The women’s soccer team played the Princeton Tigers into double-overtime for the first game of the Nike/Tribe Invitational on Friday, but neither team could score a goal.
VCU took 16 total shots and Princeton took 11, while both sides had four shots-on-goal throughout the 110-minute game.
The fouls were evenly balanced 17-18, partly in the Rams’ favor.
Samara Stephen-Dowd (Vienna/Oakton HS) was yellow-carded after the first hour of play.
Field Hockey
CHARLOTTESVILLE – VCU played U.Va. on Friday for a 1-3 loss to the Cavaliers.
Virginia took 23 shots, shooting 15 shots-on-goal. VCU squeezed in only two shots in the first period, both of which were on-goal.
In the first 22 minutes of play, Angelina Banaag (Virginia Beach/Green Run HS) scored VCU’s only point.
Before the end of the first half, Virginia’s Inge Sijpesteijn scored the Cavaliers’ first goal on a penalty corner kick.
Within the first hour Mia Link scored U.Va.’s second point on a penalty kick. 10 minutes later Traci Ragukas shot the final point, assisted by Sijpesteijn.
