Rams drop two over weekend
The VCU volleyball team had fans sitting on the edge of their seats throughout the five matches against Northeastern
University Friday.

Catherine Juson started the first match off strong, scoring the first of her three kills that evening. Northeastern caught up to the Rams, reaching a tie of 8-8. Thanks to great defense and teamwork, the Rams developed a strong lead over Northeastern toward the latter part of the first match, winning 30-24.
Northeastern fought back during the second match, often trailing the Rams by less than two points. Two kills scored in succession by Francescatto and De Borja ended the Rams’ second victory against the Huskies, 30-26.

The third game proved to be a turning point for Northeastern. Both teams stole the lead from one another throughout most of the game. The Rams gave it their all, but they were not strong enough to earn the third victory. Scoring the last five points of the match, Northeastern took their first victory of the night, 30-27.
The Rams only needed one more win to send Northeastern back to Boston. With a clear lead of 26-22, the Rams seemed to be only a few points away from their victory. Once again the Huskies’ defense came back strong and ended the game with another win 30-28.
The matches were tied 2-2. Each team only needed one more win to end the game and earn the win. Northeastern scored the 16th point against the Rams in the final match, breaking the tie and ending the game.
Exceptional sportsmanship was displayed by De Borja and Francescatto, who both left the court with 18 kills. Melissa Peterson contributed 13 kills to the Rams offense, and Renata Salvatori trailed Peterson by one kill.
