Opinion in Brief
Texas law is on the cutting edge of stupid, which is not too surprising when you consider the politicians who have come from the state. But things reached a whole new level of asinine recently when undercover agents began arresting people in bars for being drunk.

What exactly are they trying to do? Maybe they have a license plate shortage or an increasing amount of trash on the interstates. Why else would a state try so hard to put its citizens in jail?
In all seriousness, this new operation does not seem like the most productive way for undercover agents to spend their time. Surely some other issue in Texas is more pressing than public intoxication in bars, like maybe illegal immigrants or cocaine smuggling.
According to a spokesperson for the Texas ABC, the crackdown is meant to stop drunk driving and “the problem of people hurting each other while drunk.” The operation may do that but it’s also punishing all the other people who don’t drive or get in fights after a few drinks at a bar. At least there’s one good thing to come from this: more house parties in Texas. Woo-hoo!
