Watkins — a 6-foot-7, Trenton, New Jersey — native selected VCU over Virginia Tech, West Virginia, Seton Hall and St. Johns, which rounded out his top five schools.
He joins guards Ace Baldwin and Josh Banks in VCU’s 2020 recruiting class.
While playing with EYBL Team Final (Pa.) this summer, Watkins averaged 9.1 points, 5.7 rebounds and logged eight blocks.
The Rams now have two open scholarships left for the 2020-21 season, as five seniors will graduate before the end of this year.
Watkins visited VCU at the beginning of the month, along with Mikeal Brown-Jones, another VCU target. Brown-Jones has VCU in his final two schools and is expected to announce his decision Oct. 4.
