Senior Courtney Hott and junior Jasmine Waters made the most out of the VCU volleyball team’s season finale Saturday afternoon.
While the match itself shared little meaning as far as postseason aspirations go, Hott and Waters made it their business to become the two top blockers in school single-season history in the Rams’ 3-0 (25-21, 27-25, 25-19) loss at Middle Tennessee.
Waters recorded seven blocks in the match to add to her total of 157 on the year, which tied former standout Kelsie Clegg for the most in VCU single-season history. Also, Waters’ kills-per-set average of 1.23 topped Emely Bigge’s 1992 mark of 1.17.
Hott posted two additional blocks Saturday to give her 150 on the season, good for third in school history. She also averaged 1.18 blocks per set, surpassing Bigge’s previous record. Hott totaled 308 blocks in her four years at VCU, which ranks sixth all-time.
After a heart-breaking loss to Delaware in the CAA Championship – which denied the Rams a NCAA Tournament berth – VCU finished the season with a 17-17 overall record.
