MF (appears from nowhere) I’m not even joking, I was floating around on a tube sleeping, and the next thing I know everyone is like, “Get out of the pool!” … for some odd reason … and like, I felt the shakin’, and I was like, something is wrong.

CT I’m curious what that feels like underwater.

MF It feels like it’s shaking. I’m not even joking. Literally, we were sleeping in the pool when it happened, like, no s—.  Like I was on the pool in the whirlpool, and I was sleeping … yeah, on the tube. I haven’t slept in like… nah, I haven’t slept.

CT What do you think of Richmond? Have you met any homeless people yet?

DC Oh yeah, I love hanging out with gutterpunks.

CT Note:

gutterpunk [‘guht-er-puhngk], n.

1. a homeless or transient individual who displays a variety of specific physical traits and characteristics that often, but not always, are associated with the punk subculture. Attributes may include unkept dreadlocks, nose rings, Mohawk hairstyles, low quality tattoos or army-style clothing. Gutterpunks are generally characterized as being voluntarily unemployed, their unkempt appearance, smell and lifestyle making them unsuitable for most forms of mainstream employment.

CT We’re all about Interesting People. Have you met any Interesting People?

VF We went to this AFO meeting thing, and there was this one girl, and she came up to us, and she was holding a guitar and she was just like, “This is Becky, and I take her everywhere.” She was just like, walking around and singing to people.

CT Is college everything you ever dreamed and more?

AS I’ve seen so many different kinds of people, like hipster people, or like, crazy black people and, like, when I’m home, it’s just all black people, all the time. It’s so diverse here, people like wearing septum rings and smoking cigarettes and being cool as hell, or … people with little circle glasses like you.

CT A lot of our readers are probably dying to know what the honors dorms are like. Is it exquisite?

LC It’s pretty boring and quiet.

JT Everyone’s kind of hyped before you get here, but then you get here, and everyone’s kind of like, “What do we do now?”

LC The school activites are really stupid.

CT Maybe you’ve come across some strange and unusual persons then.

JT Well, we thought you were, at first.

CT Has anything else particularly interesting happened to you? Or particularly lame.

LC Our dorm’s really boring, but earlier tonight we spiced it up. We made a Twister board out of paper and markers.

JT It was weird … it was like a 30-minute party, and then everybody left. But it was nice because it wasn’t quiet anymore.

LC We took the initiative and brought popsicles … dragged some people out of their little holes.

CT Honors students sound like a pretty reserved bunch.

JT Its just so quiet; you don’t want to venture out.

LC It takes a lot of balls to leave your door open.
