At the School of the Arts Building on Friday, April 22, the graduating seniors of the departments of sculpture and extended media, craft and material studies, kinetic imaging and painting & printmaking bid farewell to their years at VCUarts with an exhibition of their latest work.
Each graduating artist in the Fine Arts Senior Exhibition, which ran until Sunday, April 24, selected for display what they felt to be their strongest representative works – as well as their preferred wall space. Many artworks were also priced for sale.
“I’ve been doing this for three, four years, and this is the final work I have made,” said Cosima Storz, senior in painting & printmaking, whose prints, silkscreens and drawings were featured on one wall of the School of the Arts Building’s third floor.
Storz was one of two painting & printmaking recipients of the Faculty Choice Book Award, for which the department’s faculty select a book of art to present to distinguished student artists. Storz’s award – a book on performance art – contained signatures from each of her professors.
“It’s nervewracking,” Storz said, describing the experience of assembling her final showing at VCUarts. “But … it’s like my goodbye to the students and the studio. I’m proud of the work I did.”
