The Rams won three of four games against Long Island this past weekend. The Rams played double-headers Friday and Saturday. In the first game of the series, the Rams won 10-6. Junior Andrew Dimino (Greenwood, In./Greenwood) and freshman Josh Alford (Midlothian/Trinity Episcopal) led the Rams in hits with three.

Junior Andrew Dimino (Greenwood, In./Greenwood) and freshman Josh Alford (Midlothian/Trinity Episcopal) led the Rams in hits with three. Dimino had three RBIs and Alford had two RBIs. In game two of the series, the Rams won 9-4. Alford and sophomore Joe Van Meter (Oyster Bay, N.Y./St. Dominic) each had two hits. Junior Doug Otto (Jefferson City, Mo./Helias) had two RBIs. In the third game of the series, the Rams lost 4-3. Van Meter’s three hits led the Rams. Van Meter and R.J. Schenk (Yorktown/Tabb) knocked in two of the Rams’ three runs. Junior Philip Deane (Richmond/Varina) gave up one run in six innings. The Rams took the final game of the series, 12-11. Otto went a perfect 3 for 3 in the game. Freshman Taylor Perkins (Dinwiddie/Dinwiddie) tripled in three runs in a pinch-hit at-bat. After the series, the Rams are 5-3. The Rams host Liberty at The Diamond Tuesday.
FIELD HOCKEY
The Rams received the National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division I Academic Team award. VCU received the award for having a team grade point average or better.
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
The Rams lost in an overtime game to Drexel this past Thursday, 74-69. Senior Quanitra Hollingsworth (Chesapeake/Great Bridge) notched her 51st career double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds. Senior Radoslava Bachvarova (Varna, Bulgaria/Daytona Beach C.C.) and junior Kita Waller (Gainesville, Ga./Gainesville) led the Rams in scoring with 18 points. The loss ended the Rams eight game winning streak and dropped the Rams to second in the CAA at 13-3. The Rams overall record now stands 23-5. The Rams play at Georgia State in the regular-season finale Wednesday.
WOMEN’S TENNIS
The Rams defeated Old Dominion, 6-1, this past Wednesday. Junior Laura Burns (Hertford, England) won her 14th singles match of the season. Freshmen Alex Bara (Oradea, Romania) and Mihaela Bunea (Bucharest, Romania), sophomore Kateryna Yergina (Kiev, Ukraine) and junior Olena Leonchuk (Kiev, Ukraine) also won singles matches. This past Saturday, the Rams lost to Princeton, 4-2. Yergina and Leonchuk won their singles matches. The Rams’ record stands at 8-5. The Rams return to action Friday when they host Marshall.
