BASEBALL
The Rams lost the third game in their four game series with the Central Florida Knights this past Saturday, 12-6. Senior Justin Wright (Yorktown/Grafton) finished the game a perfect 4 for 4 at the plate. Wright also scored three runs while driving in another.

Junior Matt Leskiw (Plains, Pa./James) led the Rams in runs batted in with two. In the final game of the series on Sunday, the Rams beat the Knights, 8-3. Junior Doug Otto (Jefferson City, Mo./Helias) had three hits, three RBI and one stolen base. Senior R.J. Schenk (Yorktown/Tabb) finished the game with two hits, two RBI in and one stolen base. Freshmen Ryan Crosby (Broad Run/Notre Dame Academy) and Kyle Pelchy (Yorktown/Grafton) combined to limit the Knights to three runs on six hits. The Rams are 2-2 and will make their home debut at The Diamond Friday at 3 p.m. against Long Island.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

The Rams won their eighth straight game with a 55-43 win over Hofstra, this past Sunday. Senior Radoslava Bachvarova (Varna, Bulgaria/Daytona Beach C.C.) led all scorers with 17 points. Senior Quanitra Hollingsworth tallied another double-double, scoring 11 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Freshman Jennifer Lane (Wichita, Kan./Wichita Heights) chipped in with 12 points. The victory improved the Rams to 13-2 in the CAA and 23-4 overall. The Rams look to make it nine straight Thursday at Drexel.

GOLF

The Rams finished in 15th place out of 21 teams at the Rio Pinar Invitational this past Tuesday. The Rams shot a team score of 59-over 898. Central Florida won the team championship with a score of 12-over 851. Lanto Griffin (Blacksburg/Blacksburg) shot a 1-over 217, which placed him in a tie for 11th place. UCF’s Blayne Barber won the individual championship with a 12-under 204. The Rams return to action at the Palmas Del Mar Intercollegiate March. 9-11.

MEN’S TENNIS

With a 5-2 victory over Middle Tennessee State, this past Sunday, the Rams stopped a two-match losing streak. Sophomore Bobo Delemark (Danderyd, Sweden) and junior Thibaut Charron (Sens, France) picked up their 10th and 11th singles wins of the season, respectively. Freshman Nicolas Vinel (Metz, France) and senior Emil Lindgren (Stocksund, Sweden) also won in singles action. The 33rd-ranked Rams look to continue winning Sunday when they host Winthrop at the Thalhimer Tennis Center at 10 a.m.

WOMEN’S TENNIS

The Rams crushed South Florida, 6-0, this past Sunday. Freshman Ana Bara (Oradea, Romania) defeated her second straight ranked opponent as she beat No. 121 Jessica Zok, 6-1, 6-2. Junior Laura Burns (Hertford, England) won her 12th singles match of the season. Freshman Alex Bara (Oradea, Romania), sophomore Kateryna Yergina (Kiev, Ukraine) and junior Olena Leonchuk (Kiev, Ukraine) also posted victories in singles action. The Rams host Old Dominion at the Thalhimer Tennis Center Wednesday at 3 p.m.

MEN’S TRACK & FIELD

The Rams dominated the Delaware CAA Invitational as they won the team championship by 44 points and won seven individual events. Sophomore Antonio Norvell (Portsmouth/I.C.Norcom) won the 60-meter (6.96 seconds) and 200-meter dash (22.87 seconds). Junior Stephen Mutisya (Machakos, Kenya) also won two events, winning the 3000-meter (8:59.42) and 5000-meter run (15:38.52). Junior Piotr Dybas won the mile run with a time of 4:18.31. Freshman Tyler Simmons (Woodbridge/Osbourn Park) placed first in the 800-meter run (1:57.70) and finished second behind Dybas in the mile run. Brian Wallace (Portsmouth/I.C.Norcom) won the triple jump with a jump of 14.15 meters and finished second in the long jump. The Rams next compete at the Virginia Tech Last Chance meet on March. 7.

WOMEN’S TRACK & FIELD

The Rams finished third at the CAA Indoor Meet in Newark, Del. Senior Vernice Johnson (Mineral/Louisa) won both the long jump (5.83 meters) and triple jump (11.42 meters). Johnson also finished third in the 200-meter dash. Sophomore Quina Fortune (New Orleans/St. Mary’s Academy) won the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.01 seconds. Fortune finished second in the 60-meter dash. Freshman Allison Morris (Langhorne, Pa./Neshaminy) won the high jump with a jump of 1.60 meters. Freshman Rachel Montague (Marlton, N.J./Cherokee) placed second in the 200-meter dash. Freshman Nicole Waters (Orange/Orange County) and senior Natalie Duncan (Alexandria/West Potomac) finished second in the 800 meters and shot put, respectively. Junior Sernarra Archie (Winston-Salem, N.C./RJ Reynolds) placed third in the triple jump. The Rams next compete at the Virginia Tech Last Chance meet on March. 7.

VOLLEYBALL

Nathan Baker was named assistant coach this past Monday. Baker comes from West Alabama where he led the Tigers to a 22-11 record and finished in third place in the Gulf South Conference. Baker also was the head coach at Tusculum in Greenville, Tenn., where he won 48 matches. Before coaching at Tusculum, Baker was an assistant at Campbell University in Buies Creek, N.C. and began his coaching career at Colorado Northwestern University in Rangley, Colo. Baker earned a Bachelor’s Degree at Martin Methodist College, where he served as a student assistant.
