Breaking News: Sarah Palin identifies with Jews

I think if you follow the editorial writing of the CT, like good college students should, it is pretty clear what my feelings on Governor of Alaska Sarah Palin are.

Well, for those of you that are clueless, I detest her.

My loathing for Palin was amplified even more so when I watched the first and only vice presidential debate Thursday night, which because of Palin, could have been made into an HBO comedy special.

I say this because Palin promised Jewish people there would never be a “second Holocaust,” in context of Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad having nuclear weapons and his feelings on Israel, which border somewhere along the lines of loathsome.

Palin’s promise is really kind, if you think about it, because as a Jewish person, I was really worried. Clearly, Sen. Barack Obama is going to let a second Holocaust occur. So maybe when I mean that I “detest” Palin, I mean I am going to vote for her because a vote for Obama is a vote for Jewish extermination.

However, after being reassured by several of my friends that they would hide me in their attics just in case Obama gets elected and the second Holocaust carries from Israel over to our waters, I still am offended by this comment. When she promised that the McCain-Palin administration would never let a second Holocaust happen, that comment immediately told me the only contact she has ever had with Jewish people before is perhaps that one time she watched “The Diary of Anne Frank.”

Palin sounded ignorant and intellectually devoid of even the most basic knowledge of Jewish culture and people when she was talking about Israel. True, she loves Israel, but why?

I cannot help but wonder if her love of Israel has very little to do with Jews and everything to do with her deep Christian roots.

Palin’s comment implied Iran was basically building extermination camps. It was blatantly offensive because she seemed to think that everyone should appreciate her not letting a second Holocaust occur. It was condescending and patronizing to Jewish people and to everybody else to make this comment and it’s a good thing this was the only vice presidential debate-because I’m not sure all the coaching she received helped.
