Launching cheerleaders banned at MVC tourney
ST. LOUIS – The Missouri Valley Conference barred certain cheerleading stunts during the women’s basketball tournament, a measure instituted after a Southern Illinois cheerleader fell 15
feet and landed on her head.
Cheerleaders cannot be launched or tossed and may not take part in formations higher than two levels MVC commissioner Doug Elgin said.
Salukis cheerleader Kristi Yamaoka suffered a concussion and cracked a vertebra in her neck when she fell during a routine in Sunday’s MVC men’s championship game.
Tennis to use instant replay
The U.S. Open became the first Glam Slam tennis event to sanction the use of video replay to rule on disputed line calls, and Wimbledon may follow suit.
The United States Tennis Association and the men’s and women’s tours outlined rules that will allow a player to challenge two calls per set and one during a tiebreaker.
