Two Rams taken in MLS Superdraft
PHILADELPHIA – VCU senior forward Dominic Oduro (Accra, Ghana) was selected by FC Dallas in the second round, and senior midfielder Stephen Shirley (Carrollton, Texas) was taken in the third round by the Kansas City Wizards Jan.

PHILADELPHIA – VCU senior forward Dominic Oduro (Accra, Ghana) was selected by FC Dallas in the second round, and senior midfielder Stephen Shirley (Carrollton, Texas) was taken in the third round by the Kansas City Wizards Jan. 20. Oduro and Shirley were the only players drafted from Virginia or the Colonial Athletic Association.
Women’s tennis blanks Air Force
WILLIAMSBURG – VCU’s women’s tennis team opened the year by dropping The Air Force Academy 7-0. The 17th-ranked doubles team of Marianna Yuferova (St. Petersburg, Russia) and Olga Borbisova (Minsk, Belarus) defeated Air Force’s top pair of Kat Bushey and Christine Abayan 8-3. Individually Yuferova and Borisova claimed singles victories. The Rams return home to host the 4-1 Invitational at Thalhimer Tennis Center Sunday.
Lambert, Mostrag propel Rams
JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. – VCU junior Davion Lambert (Richmond/Varina High School) finished third in the long jump Jan. 21, and junior Mariusz Mostag (Krajnik, Poland) claimed third place in the 800-meter run.
Junior James Frierson (Richmond/Highland Springs High School) placed seventh in the 60-meter dash, and Cary Chafee (Richmond/Hermitage High School) took eighth in the 3,000-meter run.
Women’s soccer team will run for a cause
VCU’s women’s soccer team will participate in the 2nd Annual Nicole Megaloudis Foundation 5k Run at Byrd Park on March 4. The foundation raises money to help student athletes who demonstrate financial need.
Hollingsworth claims another honor
Quanitra Hollingworth (Chesapeake/Great Bridge High School) has been named College Sports Television’s Athlete of the Week.
