Ris Paul Ric or Chris Paul Richard, former guitarist/ singer from Q and not U, released his anticipated debut album “Purple Haze.” Ris Paul Ric recorded this album while on hiatus from the D.C. favorite Q and not U. This 12-track record features songs that reject the style created by his former band. The songs are slowed down and improvisational. Ris Paul Ric tenderly croons over acoustic guitar, a bit of bass, and calm drumming. Each track gives the listener something different, but also leaves you a little confused. Tracks three and nine “D Y C N” and “P L B Z” feature only sounds ranging from crickets to bells. Among the confusion you can find solace in track two, “The Sleeparound,” where he preaches, “Our bodies were made to sleep around.” The whole album is entirely out of the ordinary, which is a refreshing change among recent releases. If you are looking for Q and not U part two, it’s best to skip this album. But if you’re ready for something different, then “Purple Haze” is a safe bet.
