Women’s hoops loses opener at Belmont
Belmont got a game-high 20 points and 13 rebounds from senior forward Brandi Miller in a 70-54 win over VCU in both teams’ season opener last Saturday at the Curb Event Center in Nashville.
Senior forward Lauren Hogan pulled down five rebounds and scored a team-high 15 points for the Rams, shooting 4 of 6 from the field and 7 of 10 from the free-throw line.

Freshman guard LaKea Jones scored 12 points off the bench for the Rams, hitting on two of her five three-point attempts.
Belmont drained eight three pointers to the Rams four. All but one player scored for the Bruins, who shot 40.7 percent from the field and 32 percent from three-point range.
The Rams trailed by just six points at halftime, but the Bruins went on a 14-6 run early in the second half behind two jumpers and a three pointer from guard Hollie Davis.
Davis finished with 16 points on 6-of-15 shooting.
The Rams were 5-9 on the road last season, compared with an 8-4 mark at the Siegel Center.
They will play their home opener against Siena on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.
