Blazers’ 17-0 run buries slumping Rams

VCU head coach Jeff Capel’s main concern going into Saturday night’s game against Alabama-Birmingham was how the Rams would respond to the Blazers full-court pressure.

For the first six minutes, they didn’t.

UAB’s senior guard Donell Taylor scored seven points early and the Blazers started the game with a 17-0 run.

Men’s soccer headed for Elite Eight

It had to happen.

Wake Forest had to lose in the NCAA tournament and VCU had to beat them.

Rams goalkeeper Saul Montero made sure of it by stoning a penalty kick by Demon Deacons defender Julian Valentin, putting an end to a 2-2 tie that spanned two overtimes and giving VCU a 7-6 win in the shootout.

VCU students, faculty remember Bick

“The school has certainly lost one of the finest musicians around,” Mike Boyd said. “He was not only a great percussionist but he was also a fantastic conductor.”

Boyd is one of many former students remembering Donald Bick, an associate music professor at VCU who died in early October.

Engineering angels volunteer to help Richmond’s needy youth

With Christmas just around the corner, the VCU Zeta Phi Sigma sorority of engineering women needs orders for baking Christmas goodies to support charitable organizations.

“We gift wrap presents at the Regency Square Mall to raise money for the Children’s Miracle Network in Richmond and the Angel Tree (Christmas program),” said Jennifer Saylor, a master’s biomedical engineering student.
