A weekend full of All-Stars and fantastic basketball
This past weekend, in my opinion, was very entertaining in the world of sports. Not only did the All-Star slam dunk competition take place, but the VCU Rams whipped the George Mason Patriots. They both actually occurred Saturday night.
First off, the Rams used cunning and speed (not to mention a few rowdy and upbeat fans) to help the Rams thrash the Patriots 78-62.

First off, the Rams used cunning and speed (not to mention a few rowdy and upbeat fans) to help the Rams thrash the Patriots 78-62. The scene was loud and crazy the entire time, with the crowd of 6,669 cheering (and jeering the Patriots, of course). At times, the Rams played like they were going to the NCAA tournament. Of course, the only way the Rams will make it to March Madness is to defeat UNC-Wilmington (and that would definitely be grand). Speaking of which, I just hope the Rams have regrouped enough to focus on beating UNC-Wilmington at UNC and again in the CAA tournament. It’s our only hope to nudging into the field of 64.
The NBA All-Star slam dunk competition, however, was vastly different. Defending champion Jason Richardson of the Golden State Warriors was out to defend his title, and defend his title he did. After amazing Michael Jordan and three others that were past slam-dunk champions and actually coming up with original dunks, Richardson won the 2003 slam-dunk competition. The slam-dunk competition wasn’t as fun as I thought it would be, but the last round was particular entertaining because of Richardson’s original dunks. One can only hope that future slam-dunk competitions will be more entertaining and that the Rams will reach the NCAA tournament.
