“Cinema by the Creek”

Hardywood Park Craft Brewery is screening “The Princess Bride” during the first installment of its “Cinema by the Creek” series. This free, family-friendly event encourages attendees to bring lawn chairs or blankets and to practice social distancing. The rain date is Aug. 28. “Movie Mythbusting: Hidden Figures”

Members of The Virginia Museum of History & Culture’s education team host weekly, interactive Zoom presentations to analyze inaccuracies in popular historical films. This week’s selection is the 2016 film “Hidden Figures.” The film is meant to be watched in advance before the half-hour discussion begins. Richmond’s Parks and Recreation Department and 17th Street Market will host an art-filled event that encourages attendees to bring their talents and create chalk art. The event is free, and chalk is provided. To reserve a spot, visit the event’s page on Facebook.

The Carytown Farmers Market

“Jazz in the Park”

Women’s Suffrage Centennial Commemoration

The Virginia Museum of History & Culture is celebrating the 100th anniversary of the ratification of the 19th Amendment with “Votes for Women: 100 Years, 1920-2020 & Going Strong!” The event’s guest speakers include Richmond Mayor Levar Stoney, Gov. Ralph Northam and VMHC President and CEO Jamie Bosket. The free event will also highlight the accomplishments of Virginian women. Masks and social distancing are highly encouraged. Independent Bookstore Day

Fountain Bookstore, Inc. will be virtually celebrating this year’s Independent Bookstore Day. The all-day event will resemble a convention with a story hour, expo booths, panels and book favorites sessions.
