Styles P rocks the Broadberry
Rapper Styles P performed at the Broadberry with opening acts LivingScottFree, Young Innovators and Black Liquid on Nov. 8.
With more than a hundred guests in attendance, Styles P performed in an effort to promote his new album “A Wise Guy and a Wise Guy.”
Styles P first began his career as a member of rap group The L.O.X. Signed to Sean Combs’ label Badboy. The L.O.X. released their debut album “Money, Power, and Respect” in 1998. Since the group’s last album in 2000, Styles P has gone on to have a successful career.
He’s released several albums, with his first solo project, “A Gangster and a Gentleman,” reaching Gold status (500,000 copies). He’s also worked with many artists including Mary J Blige, Jennifer Lopez, Rick Ross and Mariah Carey.
Looking back on his twenty-year career, Styles P said he is grateful and happy to still be performing and making music.
“Hard work. That’s all I can say. Staying on my job, loving what I do. Respecting the craft and those who came before and after me. I love what I do,” said the rapper.
During his set, Styles P performed a medley of his songs and feature verses, including the Puff Daddy hit single, “It’s All About The Benjamins,” Akon’s “Locked Up,” Rick Ross’ “B.M.F” and fan-favorite, “Good Times (I Get High).”
Throughout the night, Styles P repeatedly recognized and shook hands with fans in the crowd.
“I owe you guys a huge thank you. I know it’s a Sunday, so I truly appreciate it,” he said.
In addition to performing, Styles P also sold copies of his new album on stage for $10. Moreover, Styles P began free-styling and incorporated each person who decided to buy the album in his rhyme. The grassroots method of selling his album resonated with the crowd — so much so that around 20 people bought the album during his performance.
“It was cool, I loved it. Great energy, Great people. I always have a good time when I come to Richmond, ” Styles P said, “The energy of the people was beautiful. I had a great time.”
