A VCU alert sent around noon today said that all university night classes would be canceled due to the winter weather advisory, and the majority of VCU buildings would close by 4 p.m.
VCU Medical Center clinics and hospitals will remain open. Students with meal plans will be able to get food from the Shafer Dining Hall until 9 p.m.
The university-wide alert urged students to continue monitoring social media, VCU alerts and email for updates on the weather and further cancellation of classes.
The Weather Channel predicts the snow will continue until the early hours of the morning Wednesday, Jan. 22. Richmond is expected to accumulate about one to three inches of snow. The university alert warned students to use their best judgment in making travel decisions.
“I’m really excited we’re supposedly going to finally get a good snow,” said freshman chemical engineering Ryan Joiner, who lives in Brandt Hall. “I plan on reading in my bed and playing video games with my Easy Mac for the rest of the day and hopefully tomorrow too.”
