The VCU baseball team is off to a 5-0 start after completing a weekend sweep of St. Joseph’s with a 2-0 win Sunday afternoon.

The Rams (5-0) jumped out on Hawks (2-4) pitcher Daniel Thorpe early, scoring the games only runs in the first inning.

Chris Ayers drove in Bill Cullen with a single that put the Rams ahead 1-0. One batter later Vimael Machin hit a single to right field that scored James Bunn from second base.

Lefty Ryan Farrar (2-0) threw eight innings, allowing just three hits and striking out six batters to pick up his second win of the season for VCU.
Junior right-hander Seth Greene came on the mound in the top of the ninth inning and retired the side, picking up his first save of the season.

Ayers led the Rams with two hits and one RBI, along with Jordan Weymouth, who added two hits.

Bunn went 5-for-11 from the plate in the weekend series for VCU and Cullen recorded three hits.

The Rams look to remain undefeated when they head to East Carolina (3-3) Tuesday for a nonconference game.
