Movie Review: ‘The Cabin in the Woods’

“The Cabin in the Woods” is a refreshingly different kind of horror film from Joss Whedon (“Avengers,” “Firefly”) and Drew Goddard (“Cloverfield”). The film centers around a group of five college friends who take a trip to a cabin in the woods. Unbeknownst to them, a mysterious corporation sits behind monitors, watching their every move. The corporation fixes their actions and sets a mutant zombie redneck family after the kids to torture and murder them. So if you like zombie redneck families, maybe you should give this film a try. You know, if that’s your thing.
The film keeps you guessing til the end and punches you in the brain (metaphorically) with a surprising third act. Not too scary a film by any means. Sure there’s a spook or two, but I would have to classify it more as a mystery comedy than horror. But whatever you want to call it, it’s definitely worth a watch. It’s definitely a film Whedon fans will enjoy. After I saw it, I kind of walked around the rest of the day thinking, “whoa.” Overall, the movie features great acting, great story, great special effects and some really priceless moments.
