Former Ram standout Laura Baker has been named associate head coach of the VCU field hockey team, head coach Shannon Karl announced Tuesday.
“We’re incredibly excited to welcome Laura back to VCU as our associate head coach,” Karl said in a statement released by the VCU athletics department. “I’ve had the pleasure of both coaching and working side-by-side with Laura for four years. We have a very high level of respect for one another, and I can’t wait to work with her towards our common vision for this program in the coming years.”
Baker spent her entire collegiate career at VCU before accepting an assistant job as a goalkeepers’ coach at La Salle University. She spent all of last year with the Explorers, helping them to the Atlantic 10 Tournament semifinals.
Before leaving for La Salle, Baker spent time on the sidelines for VCU, helping lead the Rams to 13 wins in 2010, including their first CAA Tournament berth since 2004.
Baker was a four-year starter for the Rams from 2005-2008 and ranks in the top 10 of every goalie statistical category at VCU.
