Even a hurricane can’t keep VCU from hosting a comedy show.
MADtv personality Aries Spears and comic/actress Kelly MacFarland will take the stage at the rescheduled Back to School Jam Comedy Show on Friday, Sept. 23 at the Siegel Center.
The show was originally scheduled during Welcome Week on Aug. 27 before Hurricane Irene forced its postponement.
Last Comic Standing star and original headliner Ralphie May is no longer scheduled to perform. Despite his notoriety, some students are indifferent about May’s absence on the bill.
“I wasn’t really a big May fan to begin with, so I am not really mad that he isn’t going to be there,” VCU freshman Kyle Chin said.
Kelly MacFarland, a stand-up comedian from Boston, will open for Spears. MacFarland is best known for her time on season one of “The Biggest Loser,” as well as several Comedy Central competitions.
Although students that plan on attending are still looking forward to it, some question the decision to schedule it so far into the school year.
“I am excited for (the show), but I am kind of upset that it was postponed for so long,” Kevin Lane, a biology major, said.
The show is free to all VCU students with a valid ID but limited to one ticket per student. Tickets can be purchased at the VCU Ticket Office, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.. The doors open at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 23, and the show will start at 8 p.m.
