Here is what some of the protesters of Monroe Park’s proposed renovations and the homeless said on scene during the two-day demonstration.

“Richmond said it’s on VCU. VCU said it’s on Richmond, they can’t make up their minds.”

Bert, homeless

“The park doesn’t belong to VCU. It’s not their park. It was donated to the people of the city. Us.”

Bert, homeless

“If nothing else comes of our protest, at least we can raise awareness.”

Leilani Combs, protester

“If we can’t stay in Monroe Park, where will we go?”

John, homeless

“They shouldn’t close it. They can’t. It’s not their park.”

Ron Regan, homeless

  1. Really? A city park can’t close for renovations? Lots of misinformation surrounding this “controversy.”
VCU won’t own it, they are helping with funding to renovate. I can’t imagine that a university would want to help renovate a park that 3 of its dorms surround. In fact, what took them so long!
