H&M goes green
On March 18, famed fast-fashion supplier H&M will debut its “Garden Collection” in stores. The company claims the line will be 100 percent sustainable–not like the organic cotton T-shirt scandal of recent months. This collection of clothes should be made entirely from environmentally adapted materials. The price range of the collection has yet to be released.
Vogue: it don’t matter if it’s black or white
In what appears to be a long-term effort to include audiences outside of their “target” for Vogue magazine, Italian Vogue has launched Vogue Black and Vogue Curvy: Web sites that cater specifically to women of curve and color. The sites feature “how to” tips for dressing a voluptuous body and a beauty section for women of color. While magazines like Essence have long been in existence, this is Vogue’s first attempt at permanent coverage for women of these subsets. Time will tell if this outreach will have presence in the actual magazine, and if these radical ideas will reach the American counterpart.
Gucci Group upsets the fashion industry
In a statement to Women’s Wear Daily on Thursday, Feb. 25, a spokesperson for Gucci Group said that while a private funeral for Lee Alexander McQueen was set for the same day, a public memorial would not be held until later. The company is focusing on the production of the designer’s last show, which is scheduled to take place in Paris on March 9. Fashionista.com’s Britt Aboutaleb found the remark “absurd, disrespectful and disturbing.” For all of McQueen’s fans who wish to say their final farewell, they’ll just have to wait.
