Fashion Week begins

For the last time, New York’s Bryant Park will play host to the Mercedes Benz Fashion Week. Next year, fashion’s chosen ones – namely fashion editors, celebrities and models – will haul their Christian Louboutin-clad tootsies to the Lincoln Center. This year, however, Alexander Wang, Charlotte Ronson, Doo Ri and Jason Wu have already presented their collections. New York favorite Marc Jacobs has foregone his usual end-of-the-week timeslot and will present one of his three collections this week.

Jean Paul Gaultier for Target

Legendary French haute couture designer Jean Paul Gaultier is jumping on the Target bandwagon and releasing a collection through the company’s Go International line. The assembly of clothing will be released on March 7 in more than 250 stores. Though Gaultier claims his muse is the American woman, the line is irrefutably French with Navy-themed tees and structured trench coats.

Fierce! ‘Project Runway’s’ Christian Siriano at Fashion Week

To mixed reviews, Siriano opened his fall 2010 line at Bryant Park last week. The designer best known for winning the fourth season of “Project Runway” stripped his collection of his usual drama, opting instead for simple silhouettes dipped in charcoal and black. Style.com’s Meenal Mistry said for Siriano to move forward “he’ll have to expand that one-dimensional notion into something more original and thoughtful.” However, he redeemed his collection’s shortcomings with his usual extraordinary eveningwear.
