Grace E. Harris Hall is undergoing renovations to convert the first floor into a hub for university services, including the registrar, financial aid and I.D. services.
The building was opened in 1972 as the School of Business, and was rededicated in December 2007 as Harris Hall. Part of the process has been removing asbestos from the building.
“Most of the asbestos we encounter from those era buildings are in the glue that holds down the floor tile,” said Brian Ohlinger, the associate vice president of facilities management.
“We have that in that building. It’s not the dangerous kind from that standpoint that it’s not very powdery. The asbestos is stuck in the glue.”
Construction should be completed by the beginning of Spring semester.
