The Adventitious VCU Culture: Some simple advice for freshman forays

We all go through it: those first few weeks of college where life is a scramble of parties, new classes, new roommates, RA’s, TA’s, SGA, clubs, sports and trying to figure out what to do with your life.

The truth is that all of this is completely normal, and is in fact, a test.

The future of opposition in Iran

In the days after the Islamic Republic of Iran’s election, I found myself, like many others, glued to the internet, scanning unconventional sources, like Twitter and Facebook, for news about a conflict that was largely ignored by the mainstream media.

The world over claimed they were caught off guard, from CNN to the CIA, but I’m not so sure they should be so surprised.

A new page of opinion

I detest dentists. The reason why I hate them is simple; they spend a lot of their time with other dentists, talking about fillings, toothpaste, cavities and who is on the cover of In Your Mouth monthly. Student Social Security information stolen

In mid-April, a computer that contained more than 17,000 students social security numbers and test scores was stolen from James Branch Cabell Library by a student. Though VCU says they knew about the theft in April, they waited until June to notify students.

Swine flu on campus likely

Four students suffering from Influenza A were reported at VCU’s Student Health Center on June 26, with the possibility of ailing from the H1N1 “Swine Flu” virus. Under the advisement of the Virginia Department of Health, none of these cases have been tested for the H1N1 virus.

Ex-VCU Police Chief in critical care

Earlier this month, former VCU Police Chief Willie Fuller was reported to be in critical care at the VCU Medical Center after a diabetes-related medical emergency.

Fuller was arrested Jan. 28 for an alleged chat room conversation with an Chesterfield undercover officer posing as a 14-year-old girl.
