U.S. House of Representatives

VA District-4
Democratic Congresswoman-elect Jennifer McClellan, representing the 4th congressional district, has been re-elected after defeating Robert Murray with 70.4% of the vote over Murray’s 27.9%, according to the Associated Press.
Congresswoman McClellan said she looked forward to holding President Donald Trump’s administration accountable in the new U.S. House.
“We need to use our oversight responsibility to haul in a lot of these cabinet secretaries and White House officials,” McClellan said.

VA District-1
Democratic Congresswoman-elect Shannon Taylor has been elected in Virginia’s 1st congressional district, defeating Republican Congressman Rob Wittman with 50.5% of the vote over Wittman’s 49.3%, according to the AP.
Taylor said during a campaign event that the U.S. House Speaker Mike Johnson, who was campaigning for Wittman, was there because he knew Wittman was in trouble.
Wittman said during a campaign event that he was confident to win.
“We have a universe of voters that voted for us in the past, so we’re reaching out to them, letting them know the things that we’ve done, but also what our ideas are about things yet to be done, on things like energy costs, things like housing costs, things like health insurance costs,” Wittman said.
U.S. Senate
Democratic Senator Mark Warner has been re-elected to a fourth term as Virginia’s senior U.S. Senator, defeating Republican Bert Mizusawa with 60.1% of the vote over Mizusawa’s 39.1%, according to the AP.
Warner said at a campaign event that he to pursue impeachment of Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and his priorities for the Senate Intelligence Committee, which he will become the chair of in January.
“Hegseth needs to go,” Warner said. “Whether it’s through impeachment or something else, he needs to go. But we also need to make sure we restore America’s reputation around the world. America is weaker because of Pete Hegseth’s approach to the military, and firing people that are completely competent for political reasons.”
