BASEBALL
Swept the season series against VMI this past Wednesday with a 9-3 victory. Junior Andrew Dimino (Greenwood, Ind./Greenwood) went a perfect 5-for-5, including his first collegiate homerun and five RBIs. Senior Justin Wright (Yorktown/Grafton) hit his sixth homerun of the season.
BASEBALL
Swept the season series against VMI this past Wednesday with a 9-3 victory. Junior Andrew Dimino (Greenwood, Ind./Greenwood) went a perfect 5-for-5, including his first collegiate homerun and five RBIs. Senior Justin Wright (Yorktown/Grafton) hit his sixth homerun of the season. This past Friday, the Rams opened a three-game series against James Madison. The Rams won the first game of the series, 5-4. Senior R.J. Schenk (Yorktown/Tabb) went 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Senior Ian Thomas (Virginia Beach/Kellam) gave up two earned runs over eight innings. In the second game of the series on Saturday, the Rams lost 13-8. Sophomore Michael Cheatham led the Rams with three hits. Freshman Paul Nice (Powhatan/Powhatan) led the Rams with four RBIs on the strength of a grand slam homerun, his first career hit. The Rams record stands at 16-11.
MEN’S BASKETBALL
Senior Eric Maynor (Raeford, N.C./Westover) was the unanimous choice for Viginia Sports Information Director’s State Player of the Year. Maynor has also been named to Sports Illustrated’s All-America Second Team, NaismithLives.com’s All-America Third Team and Honorable Mention All-America by the Associated Press.
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
Senior Quanitra Hollingsworth (Chesapeake/Great Bridge) became VCU’s highest selected athlete in any professional draft when the Minnesota Lynx selected her with the ninth pick in the WNBA draft this past Thursday. Hollingsworth’s selection was the second consecutive year a Ram was taken in the WNBA draft. Former Ram, Krystal Vaughn was drafted in the third round of the draft last year.
MEN’S TENNIS
Rolled over South Alabama this past Saturday, 6-1. The Rams won every match except one singles match. Freshmen Benjamin Bouhana (Paris, France) and Filip Svensson (Angelhom, Sweden), sophomore Bobo Delemark (Danderyd, Sweden) and seniors Martin Schulhauser (Karvina, Czech Republic) and Emil Lindgren (Stocksund, Sweden) won both singles and doubles matches. The win was the fourth straight for the Rams and pushed their record to 15-8.
WOMEN’S TENNIS
Lost the match against South Alabama this past Saturday, 5-2. Junior Olena Leonchuk (Kiev, Ukraine) and sophomore Laura Burns (Hertford, England) won their 20th and 21st matches of the season, respectively. The loss dropped the Rams to 16-8.
