The annual tradition of parading down Monument Avenue gives onlookers a chance to people watch as well as dog watch, as it is known to draw such a large crowd. All side streets from Allen Street to Davis Street along Monument Avenue were closed, providing a large open area for the event to take place.
Music, craft vendors, food vendors, fun activities for children and the large number of dogs were the main attractions for many attendees.
Numerous canine advocacy groups including the Richmond Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals had booths and tents located throughout the event area. Many of these groups were promoting pet rescue and adoption.
Many residents of Monument Avenue had picnics set up in their front yards and on their porches during the event. Others were out simply to take advantage of their prime viewpoint as well as the sunny day.
This year’s event followed the Richmond tradition of bringing the community together to celebrate and enjoy the spring weather.
