BASEBALL

Won the first two games of the series against Hofstra. In game one on Friday, the Rams won 10-8. Sophomore Joe Van Meter (Oyster Bay, N.Y./St. Dominic) and senior Carlos Rodriguez (Vega Baja, Puerto, Rico/PRBA) led the Rams with three hits. Sophomore Michael Cheatham (Chesterfield/Matoaca) hit a pinch-hit homerun.

Junior Andrew Dimino (Greenwood, Ind./Greenwood) led the Rams with three hits while Wright hit his fifth homerun of the season. Cheatham, Wright and junior M.L. Morgan (Petersburg/Dinwiddie) each had three RBIs. Freshman starter Kyle Pelchy (Yorktown/Grafton) gave up nine hits and two earned runs over seven innings. The Rams stand at 3-2 in the CAA and 13-10 overall. The Rams return to action Tuesday at VMI..

MEN’S TENNIS

Defeated 19th ranked Louisville this past Friday, 4-3. Freshman Filip Svensson (Angelholm, Sweden), sophomore Bobo Delemark (Danderyd, Sweden) and seniors Emil Lindgren (Stocksund, Sweden) and Martin Schulhauser (Karvina, Czech Republic) won singles which gave the Rams the four points for a victory. The win improved the Rams’ record to 13-8. VCU plays South Alabama in Norfolk Saturday.

WOMEN’S TENNIS

Beat Louisville this past Friday, 5-2. VCU won every singles match except one. Freshmen Alex Bara (Oradea, Romania), Ana Bara (Oradea, Romania) and Mihaela Bunea (Bucharest, Romania) and juniors Laura Burns (Hertford, England) and Olena Leonchuk (Kiev, Ukraine) were singles winners. This past Saturday, the Rams lost to Georgia State, 4-3. Alex Bara, Bunea and Leonchuk won their singles matches. The Rams are 16-7 and finish their regular season against South Alabama in Norfolk on Saturday.

WOMEN’S TRACK AND FIELD

Competed at two meets last weekend. At the Fred Hardy Invitational, senior Verniece Johnson (Mineral/Louisa) won the long jump with a jump of 5.74 meters. Johnson, along with freshman Jazlynn Finney (Leesburg/Heritage), sophomore Quina Fortune (New Orleans/St. Mary’s Academy) and junior Whitney Key (Goochland/Goochland) finished second in the 4×100-meter race with a time of 47.86. Johnson, Fortune, Key and freshman Rachel Montague (Marlton, N.J./Cherokee) placed second in the 4×400-meter race with a time of 3:53.57. Fortune won the 200-meter race, running a 25.10. Finney finished second in the 200 meters with a time of 25.83. Montague placed second in the triple jump with a jump of 11.43 meters.

At the Towson Invitational, freshman Nicole Walters (Orange/Orange County) finished second in the 800-meter race, with a time of 2:17.82. Freshman Samantha Mosley (Farmville/Prince Edward County) and senior Natalie Duncan (Alexandria/West Potomac) finished second and third in the shot put with throws of 12.12 meters and 12.10 meters, respectively. The Rams return to the track Saturday at the Lou Onesty/Abramson Invitational.
