Letters to the Editor
Dear The Commonwealth Times,
I just picked up a copy of the April 2 edition of The CT and, quite frankly, I am disgusted. It is extraordinarily irresponsible for a news publication to match that particular picture with that particular caption!
What a violent depiction of love.
Dear The Commonwealth Times,
I just picked up a copy of the April 2 edition of The CT and, quite frankly, I am disgusted. It is extraordinarily irresponsible for a news publication to match that particular picture with that particular caption!
What a violent depiction of love. Please, for the love of God, learn that it is not okay to publish a picture of a topless woman being violently grabbed by a male, with a subject heading that reads “Power of Love.” I would appreciate not having to see this image displayed in such an unprofessional and dangerous manner. No matter the content of the play, the reality is that the way the cover of this issue was designed is completely inappropriate and evocative of sexual violence. Get with it, CT.
Additionally, Sarah Sonies-your opinion column is absolutely rife with some of the worst analysis and advice I’ve ever read. My favorites include, “metaphorically pee all over them,” “women’s empowerment section of Cosmopolitan” (REALLY? Women’s empowerment from Cosmopolitan? Yeah, empower you to give your boyfriend whatever the hell he wants), and, “If they are cheating on you, it’ll come out eventually and it’s better that you not come off as a paranoid nutcase.”
Sarah Sonies, nice choice of words. If you ask me, it seems like you’ve been reading a little too much of the woman hating, objectifying, women’s empowerment section of Cosmo. Yeah, empower yourself in a thong. Empower yourself by becoming another fake, bleached, shaved, obedient, digitized version of a woman.
Please, write about something of substance. A woman was attacked on campus a few days ago. Maybe you could write about that instead of grotesque generalizations and jokes about Jewish people. Maybe?
The Commonwealth Times,
Get with the times and stop printing this garbage.
Grace Howard
Hello The Commonwealth Times,
I’ve been thinking.
In light of the SERIOUS gaff you made on the cover of the last issue of your paper, I suggest that you make an effort to right your wrong and apologize to the entire student body.
Did you know it is Sexual Assault Awareness Month?
It would be VERY much appreciated if you (under the assistance of somebody well versed in sexual assault issues, myself, or anybody from The Well or S.A.V.E.S.) wrote one or many articles about sexual violence in our community, and the various options that are available to survivors.?
There are a number of events being held next week, including A Rose for Toni, and Take Back the Night, to shed light on the serious epidemic that is sexual violence.
Did you know that roughly one in four college females will be sexually assaulted by the time they graduate? NOW do you understand why your cover this week is very problematic?
I hope you will consider this, I feel like you owe it to those of us who are surviving.
Grace Howard
