Green Unity for VCU is hosting a cleanup on the 1100 block of West Grace Street, commonly known as Hell Block, this Saturday at 2 p.m. This will be the last cleanup scheduled for this school year. Will Isenberg the president of Green Unity, said he expects about 40 people to attend.

While many people sit on their porches and watch the cleanup, Isenberg said many times people see them working and decide to stop
and help.

“It’s really just a fun time,” Isenberg said.

Nearly 42 people, including the VCU women’s soccer team, attended the last Hell Block cleanup on March 21. The group collected 25 bags of trash. Seven of the bags were taken to recycling. The women’s soccer team is expected to attend again this weekend.

This is the fourth Hell Block cleanup the group has done, the minimum amount needed to adopt a block. After the fourth cleanup and official adoption of the block, the Clean City Commission would provide an Adopt-A-Block sign.

According to Isenberg, Green Unity plans to coordinate twice as many cleanups next year. Next semester, the group will choose another block to work on. Isenberg said the group is considering a block on Cary or Harrison streets.
