A fire broke out in the new location of Bogart’s restaurant at 1903 W. Cary St. early Tuesday morning, causing an estimated $20,000 in damage, not including the value of goods in storage.
According to manager Georgia Thornburg, the fire started in the storage shed and its cause has not been determined. The damage was primarily to the walk-in fridge, roof and support beams.
“We’re looking at two to three weeks until we can open back up,” Thornburg said. “It’s a big sob story. We got kicked out of (the previous location on) Lombardy after 40 years. It took us eight months to renovate, and we finally open and it takes us six weeks to close because of a fire.”
No one was injured in the fire, and Thornburg said if the blaze had started earlier in the morning the damage would have probably been much worse.
Bogart’s new location on Cary Street has been open since February 16.
