Oregon Hill fire scorches 3 houses
The two-alarm fire that gutted three row houses in the neighborhood of Oregon Hill March 10 was accidental, Richmond fire officials said.
According to Richmond Fire Department spokesman Lt. Shawn L. Jones the blaze originated with a sofa on the porch of the two-story, wood-frame structure.

None of the residents were injured. Firefighters were able to rescue a pet ferret and a cat from the building, but a dog died in the blaze. The fire broke out in the 700 block of Albemarle Street near its intersection with South Laurel at about 3:30 p.m., displacing nine residents in the century-old buildings.
One of the residents received assistance from the Greater Richmond Chapter of the American Red Cross.
