MEN’S BASEBALL

The Rams lost their season opener Friday to Central Florida, 10-2. Doug Otto (Jefferson City, Mo./Helias) and Matt Leskiw (Plains, Pa./James) each had three hits. R.J. Schenk (Yorktown/Tabb) and Carlos Rodriguez (Vega Baja, Puerto Rico/PRBA) each had one run batted in.

The Rams lost their season opener Friday to Central Florida, 10-2. Doug Otto (Jefferson City, Mo./Helias) and Matt Leskiw (Plains, Pa./James) each had three hits. R.J. Schenk (Yorktown/Tabb) and Carlos Rodriguez (Vega Baja, Puerto Rico/PRBA) each had one run batted in. On Saturday, in the second game of the series, the Rams beat Central Florida, 10-9. Rodriguez hit a two-out, two-run homer in the top of the ninth to put VCU ahead for good. Rodriguez had three hits and three runs batted in for the game. Andrew Dimino (Greenwood, Ind./Greenwood) and Richard Gonzalez (Caguas, Puerto Rico/PRBA) also had three hits. In Game 3 of the series the Rams fell behind 7-3 in the third inning and went on to lose 12-6.

MEN’S BASKETBALL

The Rams lost their ESPN BracketBusters game to Nevada this past Friday, 71-70. Senior Eric Maynor (Raeford, N.C./Westover) led all scorers with 28 points. Freshman Bradford Burgess (Midlothian/Benedictine) added 10 points. The loss dropped the Rams to 19-9. The Rams look to get back on track at James Madison on Wednesday at 7p.m.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

The Rams won a close game against Georgia State at the Siegel Center on Thursday. Senior Quanitra Hollingsworth (Chesapeake/ Great Bridge) tallied her 49th career double-double, scoring 21 points and 11 rebounds. Junior Kita Waller (Gainesville, Ga./Gainesville) and senior Radoslava Bachvarova (Varna, Bulgaria/Daytona Beach C.C.) scored 11 and 10 points, respectively. VCU took care of Hofstra on Sunday, 55-43. Bachvarova scored a game-high 17 points. The wins improved the Rams to 13-2 in the CAA and 23-4 overall. VCU returns to action Thursday at Drexel.

MEN’S TENNIS

Junior Thibaut Charron (Sens, France), sophomore Bobo Delemark (Danderyd, Sweden) and freshman Filip Svensson (Angelholm, Sweden) all picked up victories against Old Dominion but it wasn’t enough as the Monarchs won the match, 4-3. The Rams fall to 8-4 and return to action Sunday, March 1 against Winthrop.

WOMEN’S TENNIS

The Rams won every singles match in their 6-1 win over Virginia Tech, this past Saturday. Freshman Ana Bara (Oradea, Romania) crushed No. 125 Inga Beerman in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2. The Rams host Old Dominion on Wednesday at Thalhimer Tennis Center.
