The City of Richmond closed the New York Chicken Restaurant at 501 W. Broad St. Feb. 18.

The city health department found 18 violations and the city fire department found three violations during a Community Assisted Public Safety Unit inspection. The same inspection showed the restaurant had not paid meals taxes since April 2007 and did not have a business license, according to police.

City police said they have been called to the address for a wide range of incidents since January 2008.
Feb. 12 at 2:45 a.m. police found a large crowd at the restaurant and discovered a man who had been shot in the leg.
The incident is still under investigation.

The restaurant owner has been charged with three misdemeanors: one count of operating a business without a license and two counts of failure to pay meals tax.
