The family affair still will be highly received, as Al Hermann and Mary Hermann García, also from New Orleans, will be performing together for the first time.
“We’re both very excited,” García said.
Antonio García admitted he looked forward to making music with his long time colleague and recent family member as well as his wife.
“It’s a great thing, not only playing with family, but a family with New Orleans roots,” García said.Though an amateur singer her entire life, Mary Hermann García’s endeavors in the jazz world only began accumulating recently with performances at University of Richmond, Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens and her New York City debut.
“When I was growing up I told dad I wanted to be a vocalist and he said, ‘Go to law school first.’ So I did, then I got a Ph.D and got tenured,” Ms. García said. “Finally, I have a little bit of extra time to pursue my music.”
Also performing at the event will be the VCU Richmond-Qatar Combo, Jazz Orchestra I, the VCU Greater Richmond High School Jazz Band and the Hanover Rapaphonic.
