Michael Rao to be new VCU president
The search for VCU’s next president has come to an end. The VCU board of visitors has approved Michael Rao. currently president of Central Michigan University, as President Eugene P. Trani’s successor.
The search for VCU’s next president has come to an end. The VCU board of visitors has approved Michael Rao. currently president of Central Michigan University, as President Eugene P. Trani’s successor.
Rao, 42, is breaking his eight-year contract as Central Michigan University, that he signed in December 2008. Trani will step down on June 30. Michael Rao to be new VCU president
CMU is the fourth largest public university in Michigan and hasa population of 27,000. Rao previously served as chancellor at Montana State University-Northern.
Rao also served as assistant to the president at the University of Florida and as a member of the Association of American Universities. Additionally, he served as a higher education academic program planner in the late 1980s and early 1990s.
Rao’s wife, Monica, also works at CMU as the university outreach liaison. She is also a graphic designer and professional watercolorist, according to the university’s Web site.
The Raos have two sons, Miguel, 9, and Aiden, 9 months old.
