WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

The Rams defeated Delaware this past Sunday, 70-63. Four players finished in double-figures scoring. Senior Quanitra Hollingsworth (Chesapeake/Great Bridge) and junior La’Tavia Rorie (Charlotte, N.C./Harding University HS) each scored 15 points.

The Rams defeated Delaware this past Sunday, 70-63. Four players finished in double-figures scoring. Senior Quanitra Hollingsworth (Chesapeake/Great Bridge) and junior La’Tavia Rorie (Charlotte, N.C./Harding University HS) each scored 15 points. Junior Kita Waller (Gainesville, Ga./Gainesville) and senior Radoslava Bachvarova finished with 14 and 11, respectively. The win improved the Rams to 9-2 in the conference and 19-4 overall.

Also.
In the same game, Hollingsworth became the first women’s player and third player in VCU history to score 1,000 points and grab 1,000 rebounds, in her career. Hollingsworth has 1,444 points and 1,006 rebounds.

WOMEN’S TRACK & FIELD

Senior Vernice Johnson (Mineral/Louisa) finished first in the long jump at Christopher Newport’s Vince Brown Invitational over the weekend. Johnson finished with a jump of 5.92 meters. Freshman Jazlynn Finney (Leesburg/Heritage) was second with a jump of 5.44 meters. Freshman Rachel Montague (Marlton, N.J./Cherokee) won the triple jump with a jump of 11.34 meters. Johnson, Finney and Montague would team with junior Whitney Key (Goochland/Goochland) to with the 4×400 meter race with a time of 3:59.66. That time almost seven seconds better than any other team. Freshman Allison Morris (Langhorne, Pa./Neshaminy) took second in the high jump at 1.6 meters. Senior Natalie Duncan (Alexandria/West Potomac) set a personal best in the shot put with a toss of 13.04 meters, which was good enough for fifth place.
