MEN’S BASKETBALL

Senior Eric Maynor (Raeford N.C./Westover) was named a finalist for the Bob Cousy Award. The award is given annually to the nation’s best point guard. Maynor is averaging 23.1 points, 5.8 assists and 3.8 rebounds per game this season.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

The Rams earned a 64-42 victory over UNC Wilmington Thursday night at the Siegel Center.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

The Rams earned a 64-42 victory over UNC Wilmington Thursday night at the Siegel Center. Junior La’Tavia Rorie (Charlotte, N.C. /Harding University H.S.) led the team with 14 points, along with senior Quanitra Hollingsworth (Chesapeake/Great Bridge) and senior Radoslava Bachvarova (Varna, Bulgaria/Daytona Beach C.C.) who scored 13 and 10, respectively. The Rams play at Towson on Thursday. They are now 18-4 and 8-2 in the CAA, which is good for first place.

Also.

In the same game, junior D’Andra Moss (Atlanta/Norcross) suffered a torn ACL and MCL. Moss was averaging 9.9 points and 5.9 rebounds on the season.

MEN’S TENNIS

VCU won a 7-0 decision over St. Mary’s over the weekend at the Thalhimer Tennis Center. Freshman Nicolas Vinel (Metz, France) improved to 12-4 on the season, beating St. Mary’s Gavin Leon 6-0, 5-7, 6-1. Also scoring victories were senior Martin Schulhauser (Karvina, Czech Republic), junior Thibaut Charron (Sens, France), freshman Benjamin Bouhana (Paris, France), senior Emil Lundgren (Stocksund, Sweden) and sophomore Bobo Delemark (Danderyd, Sweden). The Rams are now 8-2 on the year and returns to action Saturday when they take on Wake Forest in Winston-Salem.

WOMEN’S TENNIS

The Rams defeated Penn, 5-2, this past Saturday. Junior Laura Burns Hertford, England) won her singles match and teamed with sophomore Kateryna Yergina (Kiev, Ukraine) for a doubles victory. Junior Olena Leonchuk (Kiev, Ukraine) and freshman Mihaela Bunea (Bucharest, Romania) picked up singles and doubles wins.
