WVCW, the station is throwing a rock show featuring
local bands as well as out-of-town talent at an
affordable rate April 26 at Element Lounge.
Event coordinator and WVCW disc jockey Tom
Jones said the show’s objective is to tell people about
all the great music the station plays.
“A lot of people don’t know that VCU has radio.
We wanted to provide a show for VCU students that
would reach a majority of people for as cheap as
possible, and we came up with ‘RockYourFaceOff,’ ”
Jones said.
Although most of the performing bands are
Richmond-based, Jones said some would have to be
compensated for travel costs.
“Bands are coming from Virginia Beach and Boston,
though most are from right here in Richmond,”
Jones said.
WVCW, which selected the lineup for “RockYour-
FaceOff,” even has its own DJs, Don Jon and A-Train,
performing in their rap group, Real Talk.
“We cover a wide range of genres, including indie
and acoustic. We’ve got V.A. represented with pop
punk and generic alternate. We’ve also got a really
loud band-I wouldn’t describe them as anything
else,” Jones said.
Local favorites will fill out the bill and most likely
will draw the bulk of the 18-and-older audience.
“I think E EN J has the strongest following, since its
members have fans all over Richmond. The Norman
Rockwells and The Vermilions are both made up
of VCU students, so they have a decent following,
too,” Jones said.
The other bands on the bill are Audiostrobelight,
Summer Nights and the show’s headliners, A’tris.
WVCW’s “RockYourFaceOff” takes place April 26
at Element Lounge at 119 N. 18th St. Doors open at
2 p.m. General admission is $7 and $5 for students.
