BASEBALL

VCU was unable to push more than
two runs across the plate in each of
its first two games in a weekend series
with Georgia State at The Diamond.
The Rams took a 1-0 lead at the bottom
of the first inning but scored only one
more run off Robinson Polanco. The
Panthers’ lefty pitched 8.1 innings to
defeat the Rams 9-2 Friday. Cody Eppley
(Dillsburg, Pa./Northern York) put the
Rams in a position to win Saturday, but
the team committed errors at crucial
moments-three total, and VCU lost
5-2.

GOLF

Rafael Campos (Guaynabo, Puerto
Rico/Baldwin School of PR) was the
lone amateur to make the 36-hole cut
at the PGA Tour’s Puerto Rico Open.
The sophomore beat former U.S. Open
champion Tom Kite and former British
Open champion Tom Lehman to make
the cut. Campos was not able to compete
for the championship because PGA
Tour policy states that if more than 79
professionals make the cut, a 54-hole
cut would be implemented with the low
70 scores advancing to Sunday play. A
total of 75 players made the 54-hole cut,
which came at 1-over-par 217.

MEN’S TENNIS

No. 19 VCU lost 7-0 Sunday at No. 2
Ohio State. None of the Rams who took
the court were able to force a third set
in either singles or doubles. Junior Emil
Lindgren (Stocksund, Sweden) came
closest before falling to Justin Kronauge
6-0, 7-6. The Buckeyes won in a swift
2:15. The Rams host William and Mary
Friday at 3 p.m. and Radford Sunday at 1
p.m. at the Thalhimer Tennis Center.

Forest Open. Sophomore DeAngelo Wilson

second consecutive high jump, leaping 5
feet, 5 inches, and was followed by senior

third-place finish with a 5-feet-1-inch
jump. Danielle Williams (Virginia
Beach/Salem) maintained her streak of
not finishing outside of the top-5 in any
event in which she has competed in the
season. The senior finished second in the
800-meter run with a time of 2:17.60.
