Long life over sex

A 107-year-old Hong Kong man attributes his longevity to decades of sexual abstinence.

The man says he has gone without sex since he was 30. He still smokes occasionally, but is trying to quit. He eats a low-fat diet and exercises regularly.

If you watch one video on YouTube this week, and one only, make it the “Funniest Mike Tyson Interviews.” It’s true that Tyson is more than certifiably insane, but it is also true that he has said some of the most original and classic one-liners that could be said in interviews.

In 2005, Kiri Davis, then a high school student in New York, created and produced “A Girl Like Me.” The seven-minute film features young black girls discussing stereotypes they routinely encounter based on their skin color. The video, which has sparked online debates throughout the country, also shows several black children select white dolls over black dolls, saying the white dolls are “nice” and the black dolls are “bad.

Ten dancers fill the stage, while some overflow into the audience. Wearing tight textured white cotton tops and pants, they shake and manipulate each other slowly and methodically. The movement is acrobatic and explosive, repetitive and spacey.

This is dance department faculty member Scott Putman’s new work “Transcending Chronology,” which premiered this weekend at the “VCU Dance NOW” performance of faculty and student works.
