Freshman Richard Gonzalez (Caugus, Puerto Rico) was named CAA rookie of the week after batting .467 in last weekend’s series at 18th-ranked San Diego. Gonzalez accumulated seven hits and four RBIs over the four-game series.

VCU’s 6-1 victory over Winthrop on Sunday improved the 17th-ranked Rams to 9-3 overall.

VCU’s 6-1 victory over Winthrop on Sunday improved the 17th-ranked Rams to 9-3 overall. Senior Sergi Arumi (Barcelona, Spain) earned his 58th career singles victory and teamed with Sebastien Deridder (Grenoble, France) to earn his 57th career doubles win.
WOMEN’S TENNIS
Tatsiana Uvarova (Minsk, Belarus) improved to 7-0 in singles play with victories against Pennsylvania and Maryland over the weekend. The 14th-ranked Rams defeated the Quakers 5-2 and took down the Terrapins 6-1 to improve their record to 11-2. The win over the Terrapins was Maryland’s first loss of the season.
MEN’S TRACK AND FIELD
James Frierson (Richmond, Va./Highland Springs) set a school record in the 300-meter dash last weekend at the Virginia Tech Challenge. The senior placed first in the event with a time of 33.87 seconds. Davion Lambert (Richmond, Va./Varina) won the long jump event with a leap of 24 feet, seven inches. Freshman Guy Alton won the 1,000-meter run with a time of 2:27.47.
