50 ways to leave your lover
Refusing to quit smoking and being a “mamma’s boy” are among the bizarre reasons for requesting a marriage annulment. The judges of the Vatican court recently gave their annual case reports to the Pope.
Many cases cited “morbid dependence” on their parents as a reason for requesting an annulment. Many men in Italy stay at home until marriage, even if they have a well-paying job.
In one case a man said his wife had let her looks go after getting married and so he felt tricked into marrying someone who wasn’t what she seemed. How original.
Some of the reasons marriages are annulled by the Catholic Church are psychological immaturity at the time of marriage, secrets kept from a partner, consent problems, forced marriage and lack of sexual consummation.
Sub for sale
The Navy is trying to find someone to take over the USS Dolphin, one of its oldest submarines.
The Navy is accepting offers from any agency or institution that will turn the sub into a museum. The Navy would require that the 165-foot submarine be kept in good condition, and would prefer that it stay in its home port of San Diego, Calif.
The USS Dolphin was commissioned in 1968 and is a research vessel unlike any other. Decommissioned in January, the submarine cost the Navy $60 million in repairs after it caught fire in May 2002.
Three-handed stripper
Give your stripper a hand, but not literally. A doctor pleaded guilty Thursday to stealing a hand from a cadaver at a New Jersey medical school and giving it to a stripper.
The doctor now practices medicine at a Los Angeles hospital. He stole the hand in 2002, when he was studying in New Jersey.
The hand was in a jar of formaldehyde in the stripper’s apartment. Police discovered the hand during an unrelated investigation. The doctor faces five years of probation for the offense.
