Starbucks brought its latest project, a hybrid of coffee and art, to the residents of New York City on Friday. The temporary performance coffee house will run Sept. 8 to 17, providing 10 days of live music, spoken word, poetry readings and fashion presentations. And don’t forget a cup of coffee.

The Web site explains this new project called Starbucks Salon as a “nomadic interactive coffeehouse, gallery and performance venue rolled into one.”

Last winter, Starbucks Salon tested the project at the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah.

To kick start the creative juices, it offers a gallery of self-portraits found at starbuckssalon.com. Anyone can upload a picture, pick the electronic drawing tools and trace over the picture. Once completed, a click on “submit” adds the personal work of art to a gallery available for viewing on the Web site.

After its run in New York, Starbucks Salon plans to inspire and caffeinate other cities including San Francisco, London, Beijing and Boston. Starbucks Coffee has not yet announced all locations for the tour.
